Thread: Cannot boot Windows Vista via grub - I ran out of options...

hi,

installed ubuntu after windows vista. ubuntu raid installation, vista on sata drive.

first checked fdisk -l lookup partitions:

code:
disk /dev/sda: 500.1 gb, 500107862016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes disk identifier: 0x000e6fdf device boot start end blocks id system /dev/sda1 * 1 3647 29294496 83 linux /dev/sda2 3648 60799 459073440 5 extended /dev/sda5 3648 59572 449217531 83 linux /dev/sda6 59573 60799 9855846 82 linux swap / solaris disk /dev/sdb: 500.1 gb, 500107862016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes disk identifier: 0x000e6fdf device boot start end blocks id system /dev/sdb1 * 1 3647 29294496 83 linux /dev/sdb2 3648 60799 459073440 5 extended /dev/sdb5 3648 59572 449217531 83 linux /dev/sdb6 59573 60799 9855846 82 linux swap / solaris disk /dev/sdc: 320.0 gb, 320072933376 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 38913 cylinders units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes disk identifier: 0xbbf80c02 device boot start end blocks id system /dev/sdc1 2 5099 40949685 f w95 ext'd (lba) /dev/sdc2 5100 38914 271607808 7 hpfs/ntfs partition 2 not end on cylinder boundary. /dev/sdc5 * 2 5099 40949653+ 7 hpfs/ntfs
so, vista on /dev/sdc.

checked /boot/grub/device.map:

code:
(fd0)	/dev/fd0 (hd0)	/dev/mapper/jmicron_graid (hd2)	/dev/sdc
the vista hdd mapped on hd2.

tried configuration in /boot/grub/menu.lst:

code:
title windows vista (loader) rootnoverify (hd2,x) savedefault makeactive chainloader +1
i replaced 'x' several numbers check result:

0: error 21 selected disk not exist
1: error 21 selected disk not exist
2: error 21 selected disk not exist
3: error 21 selected disk not exist
4: error 12 invalid device requested
5: error 21 invalid device requested

tried mapping see, if need perform virtual swap:

code:
title windows vista (loader) map (hd0) (hd2) map (hd2) (hd0) rootnoverify (hd2,x) savedefault makeactive chainloader +1
'x' replaced numbers above, did not change of messages (error 12 + error 21).

totally out of options now.
