not sure if help, there add-on nautilus let right-click on image , have option "set wallpaper"

in cases, will add image list see when go system > preferences > appearance > backround

occasionally, image not show in list...it still set wallpaper, doesn't show in choices of backround (sorry, don't know why).

anyways, called "nautilus-wallpaper" , can found in synaptic (system > administration > synaptic package manager) or open terminal , type or copy/paste following:
code:
sudo apt-get install nautilus-wallpaper
after installing, need logout , in again....then right-click on image (must on hard drive) , should see new option..."set wallpaper"

hope helps.
