Username truncation - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

i use simple little set of hacks sync email , username on submit of standard registration form.  changes value of submitted hidden username field of email address , tries make sure same in php function.  however, upon long email addresses (26+ characters), username truncates.  possible have usernames more 25 characters or safeguard?

the joomla code restrict 25

         $this->username = substr( $username, 0, 25 );
      }
      

but looked in database , restricts username, field username limited 25 also

i not sure if there special reason this.

although notice in joomla 1.5 username upto 75 characters in database maybe increase in 1.0.10

problems may occur elsewhere though, if other parts of joomla or addons expecting 25 max.
