Raspberry Pi volume adjuster from ultrasonic sensor data - Raspberry Pi Forums

hello all,

i'm new on here, , jumping in @ deep end ambitious project.

i'm planning fit ultrasonic sensor (probably https://www.adafruit.com/products/983) exhibition space film running onto projector. idea film run silently until come within range of sensor, @ point audio fade , stay until leave area, whereupon silence reign once more. video must run continuously, though, , sound must running, though muted, keep synched.

bonus challenge, have make work existing over-engineered pa system; means i'm going have intercept av signal in form of hmdi blu-ray player enroute projector.

i'm thinking of using aforementioned sensor (maybe attached arduino) , connecting digital potentiometer on raspberry pi, have have hdmi input , output.

very, very long shot, don't suppose has done similar before , can offer tips? terrible idea?

best, sarah

(yes, know, i'm feeling optimistic.)

ultrasonic detectors work best hard targets walls, may work on bodies. this linksays works.
sort of application uses passive infrared (pir) sensors detect movement, sounds people may stationary time. search term "occupancy sensor". came across these ir sensors recently:
http://uk.farnell.com/omron-d6t-mems-thermal-ir-sensor

used detect warmth of stationary bodies.

depending on video source may able control volume cec commands, pi can on hdmi.

otherwise controlling volume on hdmi challenge.
this device maintains constant volume on hdmi, similar external control want, have no idea if such thing exists. digital potentiometer require analog audio signal, means hdmi-audio dac , audio - hdmi adc/encoder.
