I'm new & here's my plan
ok, i've ordered arduino uno kit on ebay. know absolutely nothing writing code, i've got new hobby guess. ive read bit of site, im learning ifthe terminology, please feel free movk misuse of sny of it. i've got 2 projects in mind build in future (this of course after figure out how blink led arduino , other barney experiments knuckle draggers such myself.
project one, easier of two, build temp controlled fridge controlled beer fermentation. pretty straight foreward, figure don't need learn i2c yet 1 because have 2 temp sensors, 1 fridge compressor rely output, , 2 line lcd display. think figure 1 out given enough time.
now, on pipe dream. both own , buddy's brewery assistant brewmaster in kansas @ local brewpub. both hands on brewing technique, want more control on flicking switch or using 555 pwm circuit. although pwm ok hot liquor tank , boil kettle, want more repeat ability on mash. so, system need run this. 5 temp sensors run via i2c save on pins ( through expansion board assume misunderstanding of multiplexing). 2 outputs controlling pumps.
3 outputs control either heating element ssr or gas valves if using gas still. rotary encoder set temps , things. 2 buttons control pumps (not sure if can use i2c these buttons save pins on board.
for display want show temp sensors set point , actual temps. showing pumps running on/off cool too. not sure if want use multiple 16x2 cheap lcd displays, big 20x8 lcd display, or expensive graphic display(learning curve!!!) i've contemplated bluetooth device ipad, of still undecided.
now, of having been said, know need read stuff on site, little experiments, tht come kit, , finalize dezine. in men time, welcome comments , mockery if happen live in dallas have delicious beer have conversation on this.

there little learn i2c , effort there save lot of angst trying live without it. i'm not aware of temperature sensors using i2c, makes life lot easier 2 line lcd displays, , on board clocks typically run on i2c.

see above. find ds18b20 temp sensor satisfactory, , 5 of them can share 1 pin. bringing them onto expansion board desirable, along other stuff. indeed, planning biggest part of project.

the latter hell of lot easier, , possibly cheaper
