said thought router dns server doing wrong things, perhaps because assumed on windows; present set can use usb windows connection , ethernet ubuntu connection @ same time.
upgraded firmware, didn't help. tried using opendns.com no avail. user switcher firefox plugin, in case microsoft decided block browser/linux, did nothing.
did read somewhere windows users blocked getting site via trojan, repeatedly assured if did wine, couldn't this.
anyhow. can live without civilization iv in wine (i can boot 1 of windows'!); people helping me thought bit of brain scratcher. what's going on? why denied download.microsoft.com?
okay. though wasn't 'just couple of hours problem' first tried , failed , set aside later couple of days ago, started working no real reason can tell. biz-arre!
