Best practices for encryption key management?

hello. i'm using coldfusion encrypt function secure data in database, want keep encryption key secure developers access code won't able see key , use decrypt information database.

does adobe have recommended procedure handling this? in past, i've used cfencode.exe utility in coldfusion8/bin directory encrypt file containing encryption key , use cfinclude read key before doing encryption/decryption. i'm wondering if there better way of handling this, particularly split keys no 1 person knows full key.

avrdude: verification error, first mismatch at byte 0x0000 0x0c != 0x62
