Motor shield question?

hi,
i have bought motor shield , have question:
when connect battery vin pin voltage of battery going supplied motors?
for example 7 volt battery, motors 7 volts?

thanks in advance.

motor shields should have separate motor power connection, independent of
any arduino power.  motor shield talking about?

avrdude: verification error, first mismatch at byte 0x0000 0x0c != 0x62
