Stupid noob question about mambots - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

have spent few hours trying find answer - apologies if covered elsewhere.

i'm converting our site joomla , looking alternative modulebot. found includemodule , had trouble installing it. first got "failed move media directory" message (i've asked isp check permissions) when tried manual install got "failed copy file:" message.

can't ftp files folder , register mambot somewhere? how mambots "registered" - added mambots db?

when used modulebot ftp'd files mambot directory , called tag.

very confused - thoughts appreciated.

what difference between modules, components, , mambots?

modules simple plug-ins present information on site. menus modules. polls modules. user sign-in module. modules can added positions, , appear on web site.

components applications. add functionality joomla admin. when want add newsletter functionality mambo site, install both component , module. when add component, you'll see under components menu, , when go there, you'll see whole new set of admin pages designed set features of component.

mambots small, task-oriented functions intercept content before displayed , manipulate in way. joomla provides number of mambots in core distribution. example, mosimage converts {mosimage} tags html img tags; mospagebreak provides pagination , table of contents functionality. you're less need mambot component/module set.

add-on non-technical term cool stuff doesn’t come joomla installation. add-ons consist of both component , module, modules, or might include mambot.
