Solar Powered Raspberry PI + Modem, What do i need? - Raspberry Pi Forums
hello guys im thinking of taking home network of grid, ive read in here in order power raspberrypi solar need 10w 12vdc panel lead acid battery of 45amp/hour, correct , if so... need add run of modem , router system?
have add watts of them?
15.1 + 6 + 5 + 15 = 41.1watts
, 40w panel?

when dealing solar power need start thinking in watt hours.
panel size , battery size depend on live. take example:
live in location average number of watt hours per m2 per day (reaching solar panel tilted @ correct fixed angle towards south) 5000. 1 such location central california.
250w solar panel. has surface area of 1.6 m2 , panel efficiency of 15%. panel can harvest 0.15 * 1.6 * 5000wh = 1200 watt hours.
means should able power load of 1200 / 24 = 50w.
problem calculating battery size above mentioned average 5000wh figure average on year. if @ january may have less half. , battery has provide power when sun not shine. how many cloudy days in row want system keep running? if want battery last must kept near full state of charge, not half empty or worse.
conservative estimate need 2 250w panels , "huge" battery. lead acid battery should not charged more 1/10th of ah capacity, 2 panels should use battery larger 2*250w/12v*10 = 420ah.
