What? Another upgrade?!
this totally bs! macromedia ripping off people posting new version every 6 months. how expect company uses tool develop application , tool , language change every 6 months!?
my application uses flash (as 2.0) perform part of ui. however, have decided stop using flash ui because "open source" people can decompile easily. macromedia doesn't bother solve problem @ all. more importantly, no way train our developers learn 3, or 4, or 5 every 6 months , rewrite whole app again , again.
our application involves lot of coding on ui side, silverlight way go. have enough marcomedia, no more upgrade bs!

sounds you're frustrated, , can empathize in
general ... so, it's important clarify few things here. flash
8 last version of authoring officially released
macromedia. prior flash cs3, macromedia acquired adobe,
the entity in question here adobe.
realize might exaggerating out of frustration, , that's fine,
but flash cs3 released in april of 2007. 6 months after
have been october 2007, flash cs4 hit stores year (in
the last few months).

again, 6 months stretching ... news is, each new
version of authoring tool backward compatible. in
flash cs4 -- current version, of writing -- can save source
files flash cs3-compatible flas, , can publish swfs in actionscript
3.0, 2.0, 1.0, , pre-flash 5 actionscript (the slash-syntax kind).
there isn't in latest release should stop
continuing application had started.

flash proper isn't open source, there open source way produce
swf content, such flashdevelop (flashdevelop.org), lets legally
create as2- , as3-based content without spending dime. far
decompiling goes ... unfortunately, there isn't way protect
against decompiling anything. java can decompiled, .net can
decompiled, list goes on. part of why companies have eulas (end
user license agreements), , why closed-source eulas expect end
user refrain reverse engineering or decompiling software.

adobe. yes, couldn't solve problem if tried.
like microsoft couldn't keep people decompiling ms word.

why rewrite it? if started writing in as2, keep right on doing
that! :) latest version of actionscript 3.0. there isn't as4
yet, , there won't 1 while. whenever arrives
(might years), similar as3. big
difference came between as2 , as3, because as3 requires new virtual
machine (avm2) ships flash player 9 or higher.
again, don't worry new language. keep working on as2
app in as2.
