Need a vernier potentiometer to replace standard 100k pot


hello everyone. working water drop photography. built laser tripped camera release, , works quite well, looking fine tune it. in code, had delay ( delay (305) ) before camera trigger. worked ok while, while changing drip distance splash zone, had keep running computer change delay value, trial , error. took out delay, , put in 100k potentiometer. while works...it very sensitive fine tune. considering 10 turn vernier pot, turn counter, instead of 100k radio shack pot.
do think idea? recommendations on other solutions or type of vernier pot use?

is delay 0 1023 enough needs?
maybe rid of pot, , couple of buttons increment/decrement 'val'.
(or, rotary encoder).
then 'val' not  subject jitters of reading analog pot.
if need more sensitive, can switch delaymicroseconds() finer tuning.
